San Bernardino, Calif., July 30, 2013 – Fire officials declared the Mountain Fire 100% contained at 6:00 P.M. tonight. Residents and visitors may occasionally see smoke towards the north end of the fire, due to the heavy fuels smoldering within the perimeter of the fire. A Burned Area Response Team (BAER) is conducting a rapid assessment of the fire area. The BAER team is assessing the fire damage to determine if immediate actions are necessary. Actions may include work to help stabilize soil; control water, sediment and debris movement; prevent impairment of ecosystems; mitigate significant threats to health, safety, life property and downstream values at risk. Portions of the San Jacinto Ranger District including the San Jacinto Wilderness remain closed to public use. The Pacific Crest Trail north of State Highway 74 to Snow Creek is closed to public use. Mt. San Jacinto State Park is closed in all areas except for Idyllwild State Campground and Stone Creek Camp Ground. For more...
